Howard Lederer lived in a family of 5 where he liked gambling on different card games at a young age. The real advancement in his game began when he started wagering at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon club where the greatest gamblers would regularly challenge one another. Howard had access into some of the foremost players in chess. He also helped his sister Annie Duke learn poker. Annie was a superb student of poker as she constantly asked questions about how to make the correct decision. Howard Lederer told Annie Duke to head out to Sin City and compete in the WSOP competition. Annie Duke is one of the greatest female players the poker arena has ever seen. Howard relocated to Sin City in 1993 and competed in money games for the following decade. When the World Poker Tournament gained popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
