Casino chips have been manufactured from a varied selection of materials in an almost infinite assortment of styles since the creation of gambling and the need to keep track of winnings. The most common components employed at present in the manufacture of new poker chips are plastic, clay composite, and acrylics. Clay chips, the original of the group, have been manufactured in the US since the late 19th century.

Back in the 1800s, poker players seemed to use any tiny valuable object you can imagine. Early poker enthusiasts sometimes employed jagged gold pieces along with chips – chiefly made of wood and clay. By the 1900s, poker chip designs started to play a bigger prominence, and the smooth edges of older chips were given up to chips with ridges to keep them neatly arranged together.

There is little debate that poker has increased constantly in acceptance since its beginnings in the 19th century. With the explosive growth of internet gambling and specialty television shows, community appeal in poker has feed the fire faster than ever before. Many people are first introduced to poker by TV showslike "Celebrity Poker" or "Poker After Dark," and many will wager on their 1st hands on the web. Despite web poker’s growth, not much competes with the feeling of holding heavy poker chips in your hands, throwing chips into the middle of a poker table, or stacking tall pilesstacks of chips after displaying a winning hand.
