Gus Hansen enjoyed an amazing year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only player to make it to the final table in 3 of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You might recall one of the biggest pots in high stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. He raked in a large pot with 4 of a kind against Negreanu’s full house. Hansen has made many tv poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest enthusiasts around the world. While betting on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has emerged. He frequently plays in the 200/400 NL maximum buy-in of $40, 000. Hansen more often than not buys-in for the minimum of Sixteen Thousand dollars and plays very poorly. He waits patiently for a decent hand and then goes all in. I believe Gus is an amazing poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400no limit. Unless he is penniless, he has little or no reason to play at the game with the minimum buy in.

Buying in for the minimum takes a majority of the skill out of deep stack poker. Gus is assumed to be 1 of the best poker players anywhere in the world but he can’t buy in for the full dollar value. I believe television can skew our perception of the real world every now and then. The greatest poker players anywhere in the world could be guys you have won’t have heard about. Gus can be seen competing in online poker on Full Tilt. He normally plays in high stakes omaha hi-low and texas hold’em. Gus has shown himself as a tournament player. Can he back up his talents in money rounds?
