NL Holdem Poker- Who is Howard Lederer?

Howard Lederer grew up in a family of 5 in which he enjoyed taking part in numerous card games at a young age. He discovered himself becoming very aggressive in these particular card games while competing against his dad. After graduating from Sr. High school, Howard decided to place college on hold for a little while and moved away to New York to compete in some formidable chess. While competing in chess, he was brought in to a poker game going on in the rear of the room. Howard’s first two years were rough as he played extensive hours and lost a majority of the time. He earned some extra money by becoming an assistant for the poker players. He theorized he could improve his game by adjusting his life outside of poker. He made an effort to acquire more sleep and focus more on the game.

The actual improvement in his game began when he began gambling at the Mayfair Club in New York City. The Mayfair was a bridge and backgammon association where the greatest players would regularly challenge each other. Howard was able to access a number of the foremost minds in chess. With their help, Howard would hone his logical thinking abilities. Howard applied these strategy concepts to the game of No-Limit Texas Holdem.

Howard also assisted his sister Annie Duke master poker. Annie Duke was an excellent student of poker as she would consistently be asking questions about how to make the proper choice. He told Annie Duke to move out to Vegas and play in the World Series of Poker competition. She is one of the greatest female players the poker arena today. Howard Lederer moved to Vegas in Nineteen Ninety Three and competed in money games for the next decade. When the WPT gained popularity, Howard made the decision to participate in more tournaments.
