Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker competitor on the globe by many of the top pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before his first birthday. His grandfather taught him penny-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wished to discover everything he could about the game. He routinely told his parents that he wanted to be a professional poker player. He didn’t allow the negative feedback from other people destroy his dream of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his game at the poker rooms in Atlantic City. The first few years for him were a teaching experience and coming away with a win was not a common thing at the time. He became known at the 2000 World Series of Poker where he made two final tables and won his first World Series of Poker bracelet, in a two dollar, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he defeated quite a few of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

He decided to take his skills to the successive level and headed out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to play in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the best players in the world. Phil credits his achievements to hard work and an immeasurable passion for the game of poker. He says that he’s picking up skills every day and is incredibly abashed about his accomplishments. He knows he makes errors in each session of poker and constantly strives to improve.

Despite the fact that Phil has won some large tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a normal basis.
